Just Add Moss..

You received two orchids as a gift. Both are exquisite. One of the orchids you notice seems a little more unstable. Kind of floppy in a nature.  You notice that the plant, floppy in nature, has wood chips or bark surrounding its roots. The Pure Beauty orchid’s roots are surrounded by moss.  The question is why the difference?

This has always been an issue for debate. Moss or bark in orchids? A lot of growers have a preference. Here at Pure Beauty, we believe that our orchids do exceptionally well in sphagnum moss.  The orchid roots are enveloped in a blanket that create a warm and moist environment .  The kind of environment they would naturally grow in.  The moss has better water retention , which creates less watering dilemmas for our customers!

Most orchids in their natural environment are called epiphytes or air plants, growing with their roots exposed to the elements. In a pot with moss or bark the orchids do not benefit from as much oxygen.  Bark does allow for more oxygen to flow through but in return the orchid gets over-watered.  We allow for room with the moss for the orchid to “breathe”, for the orchid roots not to rot and suffocate.  Studies show that sphagnum moss has proven to be a winner for beginner orchid hobbyist.

We pay close attention to and monitor our pH and nutrient levels in our Pure Beauty orchids. We strive to bring our customers the best quality around!
